Inspiration & Title

The Lolita stock from really makes this image. She was the last element I added as I intended this piece to be a landscape without a figure…but something seemed to be missing. I searched thru my mega GBs of stock and came across this amazing little Lolita and knew the piece wouldn’t be complete without her.

I hummed & hawed about several different titles for this piece (Hurry Up. What Are You Waiting For? Will he come? etc) but I kept coming back to “The Long Wait” because she seemed to be eagerly waiting for somebody to arrive. I really liked the idea that she was waiting for her secret lover to show up but couldn’t bear using “Will he come” as a title given the graphic sexual connotation that conjures up for me. (Yes, I know I’ve got a dirty mind). “Will he show up” was too weak. “What are you waiting for?” didn’t seem to explain enough of the image (as I was thinking her lover was just off to the side out of view of the image) and left me thinking it might be too vague. So, I settled for a simple title which I think actually best suits it.

I really adore this piece. It’s all to do with the Lolita’s pose and her anticipation.

Other Details

Quickly came together in less than 2 hours. Surprised the hell out of me because I really love this piece and yet I spent very little time on it. Sometimes the best things happen when you stop over-thinking and just do it.
